Lost (2004–2010) is a Emmy winning show currently airing on ABC. Lost takes place on a seemingly deserted island where a passenger plane, Oceanic Airlines Flight 815, crashes en route to Los Angeles from Sydney. 48 of the passengers on the plane survive for inexplicable reasons, as the story revolves around unveiling the past and revealing the future of these fated survivors.
The episodes follow a unique storytelling format in that each episode is devoted to one character whose life is further fleshed out via a flashback of his or her life before the plane crash. This often brings the viewer to make interesting conclusions about the characters as each survivor usually has a hidden past that often intertwines with several other people inhabiting the island. Meanwhile, as the story on the island itself progresses, the audience is also left with many questions about the mysterious island, and answers are revealed slowly, if at all; this slow-paced and anticlimactic revealing of the island's mysteries has been the brunt of the criticism pointed at the show.
Regardless of any criticism that the show draws, the show remains extremely successful and has been a big hit for ABC, a network that struggled to find relevance amongst its network counterparts after putting too much stock in Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? and seeing its ratings collapse as a result.
On May 6, 2007, ABC announced that it has set May 2010 as the end date for Lost, bringing it to a total of six seasons. It was also announced that the final three seasons will continue uninterrupted from February to May and will each feature 16 episodes. The 2007 WGA Strike alterted these plans slightly in that season 4 will now have two less episodes and those two hours will be made up during the later seasons.
- Due to the way the show presents mysteries early on, and reveals the answers many episodes down the line, many Lost articles contain spoilers through the end of season four that may be sensitive to viewers who have not seen the latest episodes. Please read at your own risk. The episode counts for many characters may be inaccurate.
