Fear Itself is a horror/suspense anthology series that airs on NBC Thursdays at 10PM. It is essentially a continuation of Masters of Horror, with the biggest difference being that it airs on broadcast network television as opposed to premium cable. The most notable effects of this change is that the show has to be less graphic, and each episode doesn't actually run a full hour. As with Masters of Horror, each episode features a self-contained short horror film, written and directed by notables from the world of horror. Guest stars include familiar actors from the worlds of TV and film.
Directors include John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw films), Ronny Yu (Bride of Chucky, Freddy vs. Jason) and Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator). Writers include, Steve Niles (30 Days of Night), Sean Hood (The Crow: Wicked Prayer) as well as show creator Mick Garris (The Stand, The Shining). Guest stars include James Roday (Psych), Jesse Plemons (Friday Night Lights), Eric Roberts (Heroes) and Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) The show premiered on June 5, 2008 and will run for nine straight weeks, up until NBC's coverage of the Olympic games begins. As with Masters of Horror, expect episodes to be released on DVD complete and uncut, both individually and as a set.

Each year in mid-May the broadcast networks present their planned schedules for the following Fall to advertisers and the press in elaborate expensive presentations called upfronts. The cable networks also make upfront presentations but usually in much more low-key individualized presentations to select advertisers and ad agencies. This year however things are a bit different. NBC is foregoing the elaborate uprfront week presentation and instead went the cable network route of a press release announcing their plans for the entire year followed by more focused individual presentations. They will still be holding an event during the week but it will be less formalized and structured. In addition the Turner Entertainment cable networks TBS, TNT & truTV will be making a joint presentation on the scale of a broadcast presentaion and also do it during the upfront week. Another difference this year is that due to the writers strike many more shows were given early renewals than usual either so they could begin production on the fall episode early. This was done for a few reasons: to alleviate some of the costs of restarting production for only a handful of episodes to air in the spring, to alleviate the finacial hardships on the staff that had been out of work for months, to alleviate any fears of cancellation after the long midseason break and lastly to try and get ahead of a possible strike by the Screen Actors Guild this summer.
